Sirius-ly

So I’ve had Sirius Satellite Radio ever since I bought my new car in March - it came with a 6 month subscription for free. I’ve actually been really happy with the service and ended up renewing it a couple months ago, but a few weeks ago I noticed that I could listen online to Sirius from a computer as long as I had a valid subscription, so I went to try and sign up. What I found was a registration disaster and a huge pain in the ass. I can’t believe I had to go through this crap. I bet it’s only for people who get these free subscriptions, but still, that’s pretty common these days and it’s absolutely obnoxious.
I went to Sirius’ website and registered with the billing name on the account and the serial number for my radio. Easy enough, right? I got a “Congratulations” message and a login dialog. Only problem is - I was never asked for a user name or a password. Ok, great, there’s a link if I don’t know my username. I click it and Sirius tells me they’ve emailed me my username which is completely random. Cool. I check my email, have the username and a link to login, so I click it. At this point I have my nonsense username, but no password so I’m forced to click the link if I forgot my password. Sirius tells me they’ve emailed me a password now too. So now I can finally login to my account with my 2 completely random strings for a username and password. Like hell I’m going to remember these, but at least there’s an option to change both of them, so I choose a more meaningful username and password and I think I’m finally set to listen to Sirius online. Apparently accounts aren’t enabled for this by default so I find a link to sign up. Yes, sign up for this service that’s supposedly including in my account that I already registered. This is fun! So I try to register the same meaningful username and password, but here’s the kicker - I’m told the username is already taken! I know it’s unique, it’s been unique across the Interweb forever so the only explanation is that my Sirius account has this username, but yet, I can’t use it to listen online.
At this point I said to hell with it and gave up. I haven’t had time to pursue linking my actual Sirius account with the ability to listen online, but the real issues is that this isn’t something that should take time to do. I don’t understand why I need a separate account to manage my account and one to listen online. It should have been a 2 minute process, but now I’ve wasted 20 minutes trying to resolve this and I’m still not done. I guess I was a satisfied Sirius customer.
